After a year's instructing, he was promoted to foreman of Department 487 and for nearly two years it was his job to see that new workers in the leather factory were fully trained in their respective operations.
Then he was transferred to Department 421 where he is at present in charge of sixty-five operators producing leather and textile shoes. Since he has been with this department, Mr Haxell won second prize in the recent workshops competition and has attended the managers' luncheon conference as top foreman on several occasions.
On Saturday, George Haxell, the popular foreman of Department 421 was married, at St Nicholas Church, Plumstead, to Miss Evelyn Edworthy.
The parents of both, Mr and Mrs W Haxell of Civic Square, Tilbury and Mr and Mrs R Edworthy of Bannockburn Road, Plumstead, were present at the ceremony which was conducted by Rev. A Toomey. The best man was Mr Jack Haxell, book-keeper from the leather factory.
The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a dress of white satin with a long train from the waist. She carried a bouquet of lilies.
She was attended by Misses M Price, D Eddy, D Edworthy, L Edworthy and A Sawdy. The two elder bridesmaids wore frocks of lavender taffeta while the other three were dressed in lemon. All five carried bouquets of pink and yellow roses.
About sixty friends and relations, including several fellow workers, were present at the reception which was held at St Paul's Hall, Plumstead.
Mr and Mrs Haxell wish to thank Mr V E Schmidt for his congratulations telegram, fellow workers for the gift of a wireless set and Bata Community for a fruit set.
The new address of the happy couple is 13 Princess Avenue on the Bata Estate.
