9th June 1939
Although he has been with the Company for only two years, Mr P E Cowell already holds one of the most important posts in the factory. Initiative and drive are two of Mr Cowells's chief virtues and it is due to these that he now holds his high position.
In June 1937, Mr Cowell became shopmanager of the Bata shoe store at Southall, where he remained until September of the same year when he moved to Dagenham. After two weeks as manager he was made inspector of the Essex district.
In February 1938, he was sent to control the model shop in Bristol.
Here Mr Cowell acquitted himself so well that he was promoted to the managership of Group 510. This move took place in September of last year and for the next six months he worked steadily and conscientiously in his new executive position. Then May of this year, he made his latest and most important move, when he was made manager of the retail department.
Mr Cowell who lives on the Bata estate, is married and the proud father of two bonny children.
