Herbert Sawkings was a Sergeant in 218 Squadron Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He joined the R.A.F.V.R. in 1940.
He was the son of John Edward and Nellie Sawkings and husband of Kathleen Ethel Sawkings of Grays, Essex.
Herbert came to work at East Tilbury in 1938 in Department 324, Rubber Factory and in 1939 at the age of 16 he was sent to Holland on an all expenses paid trip as reward for good work in the Factory
He was reported Missing from Air Operations over Germany and died on Tuesday 4th May 1943 aged 20.
